Chinese Ambassador: China, Georgia strengthen financial cooperation alongside strategic partnership

Zhou Qian, the Chinese Ambassador to Georgia, on Saturday said that China and Georgia shared a longstanding and solid history of collaboration in the financial sector, and this cooperation was expanding further as the two countries deepened their strategic partnership.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Zhou emphasised that with the establishment of the China–Georgia strategic partnership, financial collaboration has expanded significantly.
“With the establishment of the China–Georgia strategic partnership, financial cooperation between the two countries is expanding even further. In 2025, Natia Turnava, the Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, visited China and signed the first Memorandum of Understanding with the People’s Bank of China. The two sides also exchanged views on facilitating Georgian financial institutions’ access to the global CIPS network”, he said.
The Ambassador noted that China’s extensive experience in financial technologies and innovation positions it as a valuable partner in supporting Georgia’s modernisation of its financial systems.
“Alongside the deepening of China-Georgia relations and the rapid development of pragmatic cooperation, integration into CIPS will help Georgian financial institutions diversify cross-border payment systems and streamline transactions between the two countries, making cooperation in areas such as trade, finance, tourism, and others much more convenient. China has extensive experience in financial technologies and innovation and is ready to share this expertise with Georgia”, he concluded.
