Georgian foreign minister Maka Botchorishvili on Monday reiterated that the Georgian government has consistently maintained a firm and supportive stance toward Ukraine.

Speaking to journalists in Yerevan during the 8th summit of the European Political Community, Botchorishvili revealed that the discussions with her Ukrainian counterpart and the country’s president focused on bilateral relations, existing challenges, and the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two nations.

“We had a conversation with [my] Ukrainian counterpart, as well as with the President. We discussed the relations between our countries, the challenges that exist between us, and the importance of developing cooperation between the two nations”, the FM said.

“Throughout this time, Georgia has maintained a consistent and firm position regarding its attitude toward and support for Ukraine. Naturally, it is important for us to see the same attitude from the Ukrainian side toward Georgia as well. The meeting was not pre-planned; it took place within the framework of this format at the initiative of the Ukrainian side and lasted for several minutes. We managed to touch upon the significant issues that exist in the relations between the two countries”, she continued.

The minister also emphasised the importance of diplomatic relations and Georgia's firm position toward Ukraine, based on mutual respect.

“A specific date was not mentioned; however, there was a discussion regarding the fact that diplomatic relations are vital in the interaction between the two countries, including the presence of ambassadors in the country. Once again, throughout this time, Georgia has held a firmly established position and attitude toward Ukraine, which we have expressed repeatedly in international formats wherever possible; it is important that these relations are based on mutual respect”, she concluded.
