Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on European Integration, on Tuesday said comments made by Peter Fischer, German Ambassador to the country, ultimately served to divide society and incite ethnic tensions.
Makhashvili’s comments came in response to Fischer’s statement that the Georgian people didn’t want to be Turkish, Russian, Iranian or Azerbaijani.
“The public finds the thoughtless statements he frequently makes completely unacceptable. These statements ultimately serve to pit different groups within society against one another and to fuel tensions on ethnic grounds”, he said.
“As it appears, this is in fact the Ambassador’s main intention”, Makhashvili concluded.
