Police seize nearly 21 kilograms of drugs in Tbilisi, arrest three

The Ministry of Internal Affairs on Thursday reported that Georgia’s law enforcement officers had seized nearly 21 kilograms of narcotics in Tbilisi and arrested three individuals.
According to the Ministry, officers from the Central Criminal Police Department detained the suspects on charges of illegally purchasing and possessing an especially large quantity of narcotic drugs as part of an organised group, facilitating their distribution, and illegally cultivating plants containing narcotic substances.
During searches of the suspects’ persons and homes, as well as locations identified by them, police seized an especially large quantity of narcotics prepared for distribution, including more than 13 kilograms of cannabis plants and 7 kilograms of marijuana.
The investigation found that some of the defendants had been illegally cultivating large quantities of narcotic plants in a specially equipped greenhouse.
Investigative actions also led to the seizure of materials used for packaging narcotics and cultivating the plants.
The investigation is underway under Articles 260, 260¹, and 265¹ of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The offenses carry penalties of up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment.
