Georgian Parliament official: Europe urged Georgia to impose sanctions on Russia while deepening economic relations with Moscow

Davit Matikashvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Monday criticised the European Union over its economic relations with Russia, saying European countries are deepening ties with Moscow while urging Georgia to impose sanctions on Russia.
Matikashvili made the comments in response to a report by German publication WELT claiming that EU countries increased imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia in June.
“The Global War Party demanded that Georgia become involved in the war, while the double standards that the EU is guided by today are increasingly detached from the so-called spirit that the West had toward Russia since the beginning of the war”, he said.
Matikashvili also alleged that a large-scale “anti-Georgian campaign” had been conducted while European countries continued to benefit economically from their relations with Russia.
