Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has congratulated the Georgian people on Didgoroba, a holiday symbolising national unity, dignity, freedom and victory.
“Today is Didgoroba, a day that has become a symbol of Georgian unity, national dignity, freedom and victory!” Kaladze said in a social media message.
He stressed that the day serves as a reminder that Georgia’s independence is a great value secured through the dedication of its ancestors and wise political decisions, and one that requires constant protection and a strong sense of state responsibility.
“Today once again reminds us that Georgia’s independence is the greatest value achieved through the dedication of our ancestors and wise policies, and it requires constant protection and state responsibility”, Kaladze said.
“Congratulations, and may our country achieve many more victories!” he concluded.
Didgoroba commemorates the Battle of Didgori, fought on August 12, 1121, when the army of King David IV, also known as David the Builder, defeated a much larger Seljuk force near Tbilisi.
The victory is widely regarded as a turning point in Georgia’s history and is celebrated annually as a symbol of national unity, strength and statehood.
