Georgian PM: judicial reforms since 2012 have fundamentally increased public trust in judiciary

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday highlighted the sweeping reforms carried out within the judicial system since 2012, emphasising that these changes have led to a fundamental increase in public trust and significant improvements in objective court statistics.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that the changes have led to measurable improvements, including in the number of cases taken to the European Court of Human Rights.
“You know the scale of the changes that have been implemented in the judicial system since 2012, which have resulted in specific changes, including in statistics, in terms of the number of applications to the European Court of Human Rights, and so on. We have seen fundamental changes in the judicial system”, Kobakhidze said.
The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction when international institutions provide objective evaluations of these developments.
“It is not surprising that all of this is reflected in international rankings and international assessments. This is an objective reality, and we are always pleased when international institutions objectively assess all of this”, he concluded.
The World Bank has published the results of a Freedom House global survey on judicial independence, placing Georgia among the top four countries in the post-Soviet space and among the top five European countries in terms of progress over the past 13 years.
