Georgian Parliament Speaker accuses EU of clinging to “false narrative” and spreading disinformation against Georgia

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday condemned a statement by the Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to the United Nations, calling it “outrageous” that such a platform is being used to spread what he described as disinformation and lies against Georgia and the Georgian people.
In his remarks, Papuashvili said the statement amounted to defamation.
“Today, I dedicated a social media post to this issue, saying that Brussels is lost in its own false narrative and cannot move away from the narrative it tried to impose on Georgia and the world two years ago, before and after the parliamentary elections - that the elections in Georgia had been rigged and that the police had taken action against peaceful protesters. All of this has collapsed. Every issue has been investigated, verdicts have been handed down, and we have seen 45 plea agreements and requests for pardons in which all the crimes were acknowledged”, he said.
“Clinging once again to this false narrative simply demonstrates the essence of Brussels’ foreign policy - that they are grasping at straws and are once again trying to serve the revolutionary scenario that was defeated in Georgia. Brussels must emerge from these illusions and abandon its aggressive rhetoric against Georgia. It is truly alarming that we continue to hear such rhetoric against Georgia, and it must stop spreading disinformation against Georgia. All of this runs counter to common sense and to the way the European Union is conducting its foreign policy toward Georgia today”, Papuashvili continued.
The Parliament Speaker added that every false statement, whether made by the European Union or any other organisation, would be exposed.
