Parliament Vice Speaker calls for wanted former official’s extradition to “restore justice”

Georgian Parliament Vice Speaker Giorgi Kakhiani on Tuesday demanded the extradition of Zurab Adeishvili, the wanted former Prosecutor General and Justice Minister of Georgia under the previous UNM Government, to Georgia to face justice, expressing disbelief at Adeishvili's freedom to roam throughout European countries and participate in international events despite his criminal past.
Kakhiani denounced Ukraine's role in facilitating Adeishvili's presence at the conference in The Hague, calling it unfriendly and inexplicable, and expressed his hope for justice to prevail in Adeishvili's extradition.
“It is unfortunate that such unfriendly and incomprehensible actions on the part of Ukraine have occurred before and are still ongoing. It seems that they are not going to change their position in this direction”, Kakhiani said.
The Netherlands is hosting an international conference Restoring Justice for Ukraine. Adeishvili attended the conference together with the General Prosecutor of Ukraine Andriy Kostin.
Adeishvili, who left Georgia in 2012, was convicted of a wide range of crimes, from human torture to business racketeering. The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office put Adeishvili on the wanted list in 2013 on several counts.
The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia on Tuesday requested the detention and extradition of Adeishvili from the Netherlands.
