PM highlights poverty reduction in country under Georgian Dream Gov’t

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday highlighted the poverty reduction in the country under the governance of the Georgian Dream Government.

In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that almost 700 000 citizens of the country had overcome poverty since 2012.

“In 2012, over 1.1 million fellow citizens lived below the poverty line, under the current Government, almost 700 thousand citizens overcame poverty, our main task is to eradicate poverty and we are glad that we are making progress”, Kobakhidze said.

“The National Statistics Office has published economic growth data for April. In April, economic growth amounted to 11.8 percent, which is a very high indicator”, the PM continued.

He also added that the rate of the citizens living below the poverty line last year was 11.8 percent, which is 3.8 percentage points less than in 2022.

“In 2012, the poverty rate was 30 percent, that is, more than 1 million 100 thousand of our fellow citizens lived below the poverty line, today 435 thousand of our fellow citizens live below the poverty line. This means that under the current Government, almost 700,000 citizens have overcome poverty, which is a very good indicator”, he concluded.
