Parliament Committee Chair rejects President’s proposal to name technical Government ahead of elections

Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Thursday claimed that Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili was acting against “everything European”.
In her remarks over the President’s proposal to name a technical Government, Botchorishvili noted that “there are no grounds to discuss a technical Government - why would the country need one with elections ahead?”
She also noted that Zourabichvili was “doing everything” that was going against European standards, further stressing that she had been “blatantly” violating the Constitution “for a long time”.
“In this context, any talk of European values from her [Zourabichvili] is absurd. As someone in the presidential office, she is announcing and doing everything to destabilise the country. There are no grounds for discussing a technical Government in Georgia. Why would Georgia need a technical Government when elections are coming up? The political force that wins the election has the full capability to form a Government. It is unimaginable what they are even talking about. The so-called Georgian Charter [proposed by Zourabichvili to unite the opposition forces ahead of the elections] is not a Georgian charter - it is a document of destabilisation and chaos for the country, nothing more”, the Parliament official concluded.
