Georgian parliamentary delegation meets with Pope Leo XIV and Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin

As part of an official visit to Italy, a Georgian parliamentary delegation led by Nikoloz Samkharadze, the chair of the Georgian Parliament’s foreign relations committee, on Friday held meetings with Pope Leo XIV and Vatican secretary of state Cardinal Pietro Parolin, discussing Georgia’s European integration, regional security, and the situation in the Russian-occupied territories.
During the meeting with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the parties discussed Georgia’s European integration process, with the Cardinal expressing interest in the current challenges facing these relations.
The parties also discussed the situation in Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions - Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region - as well as broader regional security developments.
Another focus of the meeting was Georgia’s role in promoting peace and stability in the South Caucasus, including its involvement in supporting dialogue related to Armenia-Azerbaijan relations.
As part of the visit, the Georgian delegation also held an audience with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican.
