Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday nominated Sulkhan Tamazashvili for the position of the Chair of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.
The nomination followed the resignation of Tornike Rizhvadze, who has served as the Chair of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara for seven years.
Kavelashvili emphasised Tamazashvili’s extensive background in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and his strong connection to the Adjara region.
“Sulkhan Tamazashvili is a colonel with extensive experience working in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He has held various leadership positions within the Ministry and has successfully and honourably carried out his responsibilities. [...] It is also noteworthy that Sulkhan Tamazashvili was born and raised in the Adjara region, which gives him a deep understanding of the region. I am confident that he will be just as successful in his new role as he was throughout his years of service in the law enforcement system. I wish him success, and both he and his team will have my full support as the President of Georgia”, Kavelashvili said.
Kobakhidze echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence in Tamazashvili’s leadership abilities.
“Today, I am introducing a honourable candidate, Sulkhan Tamazashvili, who has had a long and distinguished career in a highly important institution - the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He has honourably served our state and our country for many years. [...] He possesses the necessary qualities, experience, and skills to successfully lead the region's development efforts. We face many challenges, and I am confident that Sulkhan Tamazashvili will successfully tackle them. I wish him success in his new role”, Kobakhidze noted.
The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to thank the outgoing Chair Rizhvadze for his contributions over the past seven years.
In response, Tamazashvili expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by the country's leadership.
“This is a great responsibility, made even more significant by the fact that I am a son of this region. Now, I have the opportunity to use my years of public service experience to benefit my people and my republic”, he said.
