PM Kobakhidze highlights Georgia as fastest-growing economy

Georgia is the fastest-growing and developing economy, with an average economic growth rate of 9.3 percent over the past five years, one of the highest figures in Europe, said on Wednesday Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
Speaking at a leaders’ dialogue held within the framework of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, themed The Middle Corridor - Connecting Europe and Asia through Energy, Kobakhidze noted that this success was the result of reforms implemented by his Government.
“We are a very successful country in terms of economic development, not only in our region but in a broader context as well. Georgia is the fastest-growing economy, with an average growth rate of 9.3 percent over the past five years - one of the highest indicators in Europe. If economic success is assessed fairly, it is precisely the result of the economic reforms being implemented in the country. It is also the result of having the lowest level of corruption in the region, with better indicators in this regard than 11 EU member states”, the PM said.
He further added that a fair assessment of Georgia’s achievements should foster greater enthusiasm for the country’s deeper integration into European space.
“Georgia naturally belongs to Europe. We are doing our utmost to move forward, to develop the country in terms of economic growth and improving governance systems. That is why we are very optimistic. There are certain difficulties between the EU and Georgia, but we hope that, following changes in the political environment, integration will move forward”, Kobakhidze concluded.
