Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Thursday said that “in a complex and constantly evolving global environment”, Georgia was maintaining its status as a “constructive and reliable” partner and was playing a “decisive” role in shaping global supply chains, energy diversification, and the deepening of economic ties.
In her remarks at a joint press conference with Lazăr Comănescu, the Secretary General of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), Botchorishvili noted that Georgia’s strategic location and open economic policy made the country an indispensable connectivity hub between Europe and Asia.
“The security, stability, and development of the Black Sea region are the foundation of Europe’s prosperity. Today, the Black Sea region faces numerous challenges, particularly in terms of security, which places our region at the epicenter of global politics. Alongside seeking ways to address these challenges, we must also be able to work on the opportunities that exist in the Black Sea region”, the FM said.
“In a complex and constantly changing global environment, Georgia maintains its status as a constructive and reliable partner and plays a decisive role in shaping global supply chains, energy diversification, and the deepening of economic ties”, she continued.
Botchorishvili said Georgia’s vision was based on strengthening connectivity, where the Middle Corridor was not merely a transport route, but a safe, fast, and efficient economic bridge.
She added that ongoing infrastructure initiatives, including oil pipelines, the Black Sea submarine electricity cable, Black Sea liquefied natural gas production, railway system modernisation, construction of the East-West highway, and the Anaklia deep sea port project, would significantly contribute to Europe’s overall prosperity.
“I would like to take this opportunity to emphasise the cooperation between Georgia and the BSEC. As a founding member of the BSEC, Georgia has actively contributed to regional dialogue and economic resilience since the organization’s establishment. Existing security challenges remain a significant obstacle to fully realising the organisation’s potential. We must ensure that the Black Sea becomes a connector, not a divider, in our region”, Botchorishvili concluded.
