Giorgi Kakhiani, the vice speaker of the Georgian Parliament, on Saturday said recent developments indicate a “clear positive trend” in relations between Georgia and the United States, expressing hope for concrete progress in the near future.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Kakhiani noted that one of the key indicators of this positive shift was the recent working visit of Peter Andreoli, a representative of the US Department of State’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, to Georgia.
“There is a clear positive trend that has emerged recently in Georgia-US relations, despite the previously worsened and complicated situation. One indicator of this trend is the visit of a high-ranking State Department official to Georgia”, Kakhiani said.
The vice speaker also referenced a recent trip by a Georgian parliamentary delegation to the United States, which included meetings he described as important and productive.
“We also recall that not long ago there was a visit by the chair of the foreign relations committee of the Georgian Parliament along with a parliamentary delegation, which included quite interesting and important meetings. All of this gives us strong hope that we will be able to turn a new page in our relations. This could mean not only restoring partnership relations but going even further”, he noted.
He further stressed that Georgia was ready to take concrete steps to support this process and expects similar actions from the US side.
“In this regard, we expect concrete steps, and of course, we are ready for them. We fully understand how important our relationship with the United States is, and I hope that very soon we will see concrete steps - not only visits like these, which indicate a positive trend, but real actions that will allow us to return to the kind of relationship we had and give us the opportunity to deepen it even further”, Kakhiani concluded.
