Georgia’s ruling party official: today, Georgia has President who serves only interests of Georgian people

Irakli Kirtskhalia, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Tuesday delivered an address following President Mikheil Kavelashvili’s annual report, emphasising the need for strategic caution and national unity amidst a shifting global order.
Kirtskhalia warned that Georgia must remain “extremely cautious and vigilant” to ensure the country is not confronted with existential problems or exploited by external actors for their own interests at the expense of the Georgian people's well-being.
“In light of the events that have developed in recent years, the international community sees that the geopolitical order is fundamentally changing and new rules of the game are being established in the world, which the leaders of great powers, military, political or economic unions and alliances are speaking about directly and openly. In determining where a specific state will find itself in the new world order, the greatest and most important thing is how the Government and people of a given country will protect and take care of their national interests”, Kirtskhalia said.
“Despite the loud predictions, no one can yet say with certainty how events in the world will develop. Accordingly, we, as a small but strategically located country, must continue to exercise great caution and vigilance to ensure that Georgia does not face existential problems and that no one uses our homeland for their own purposes at the expense of the well-being of the Georgian people”, he continued.
The official recalled that for the country 2025, like the previous period, turned out to be full of internal and external challenges.
He emphasised that as a result of the thoughtful actions of state institutions and wise decisions of the Georgian public, the Government coped with the difficulties with dignity, defended the independence of the country and further strengthened its sovereignty.
“Unlike previous years, when the President of Georgia, unfortunately, served the interests of not Georgian, but foreign forces and engaged in sabotage against the people who gave her the mandate to hold this position, today the head of our state is an ally of the Georgian public and makes his own significant contribution to the fight against threats coming from within or from without. Fortunately, our public has regained the institution of the President, which is manifested, first of all, in the dignified exercise of the powers granted to him by the Constitution of Georgia. And today, Mikheil Kavelashvili embodies all of this”, he added.
As Kirtskhalia noted, in the 35-year period following the restoration of state independence, presidents served the interests of external forces, not the state.
“We can recall cases when presidents served the interests of external forces, not our state, disregarding the Constitution of Georgia, applying relevant legislation to themselves, failing to understand the responsibility of the head of state and subordinating this most important institution to individual interests, which created many difficulties for Georgia. Since the end of 2024, this harmful practice has become a thing of the past once and for all. Today, we can say with confidence that the President of Georgia serves only the interests of the Georgian people”, he added.
“As I mentioned, today we are witnessing a fundamental change in the existing order in the world, and in such a situation it is very important for state institutions to conduct policy with maximum effective coordination, work together and not take contradictory steps”, he continued.
The official underscored that today the President, Parliament and Government were actively cooperating and doing everything to ensure that the best interests of the public were always properly protected.
“It is very important that today Georgia has a President who pays special attention to the protection of Georgian culture and history, family values, our traditions, the Mother Church and the unification of the public around all this. His actions are consistent, he upholds the principles on which our state is founded, and when it comes to protecting Georgia's sovereignty, ensuring order and democracy in the country, he is always unwavering”, Kirtskhalia said.
“In conclusion, Mr. President, for the work you have done over the past year, for the worthy fulfillment of the powers granted to you by the Constitution, for protecting the interests of the state, caring for the unity of the public, for always being constructive, promoting coordination between state bodies, and for actively cooperating with the legislative and executive authorities, I would like to express my deepest gratitude on behalf of our team. I am confident that your efforts will bring significant results to our country and people”, he concluded.
