Eka Sepashvili,

Eka Sepashvili, an MP from the People's Power party, on Friday commented on the visit of a Georgian parliamentary delegation to the United States, describing it as “highly productive”.

In her remarks, Sepashvili noted that the meetings focused on several pillars critical to Georgia’s national interest, with a particular emphasis on the protection of free speech and energy security.

She stressed that the issue of freedom of expression has gained renewed urgency following recent sanctions imposed on Georgian media outlets by the UK, specifically Imedi TV and POSTV.

“We participated in the Alliance of Sovereign Nations, which stood out for its scale and was attended by high-ranking politicians, senators, and congressmen. We discussed matters that are extremely important for Georgia, particularly freedom of speech. As you know, in light of the recent sanctions against Georgian television channels Imedi TV and POSTV, the issue of freedom of speech and expression has gained great importance. We discussed this topic as one of the key components of national independence and security”, she said.

She also highlighted that energy independence and global energy security were key subjects at the forum.

“The discussions also covered energy independence, and in this context Georgia’s special role was highlighted. In the future, our state’s involvement in global energy security should become even stronger”, the MP noted.

Sepashvili further added that Georgia’s geographic position gives the country an important role in international energy and economic cooperation.

“Within the framework of the Alliance and during other meetings, attention was also drawn to Georgia’s important geostrategic location, which makes it an object of US economic interest. Such a convergence of interests is an important foundation for making the dynamics of relations between Georgia and the United States more positive”, Sepashvili concluded.
