Azerbaijani President: South Caucasus region countries must remain focused on peace, security amid global instability

Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev on Monday said that countries in the South Caucasus region “must remain firmly focused on peace, stability, and security”, despite growing global challenges.
Speaking at a joint briefing with Georgian prime minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan had already invested $3.6 billion in Georgia’s economy and discussions included new investment opportunities and projects.
“We have achieved significant results in the economic sphere. Ahead of my visit, I reviewed the statistical data of our cooperation - billions of dollars have already been invested in Georgia, and the growth is impressive. First-quarter indicators confirm this trend. By the end of the year, we will exceed several billion, and the investment climate enables businesses to further increase investments”, he said.
“A total of $3.6 billion has already been invested in Georgia’s economy from our country, and today we discussed new opportunities and new investment projects. We may also consider joint investments in third countries”, the president continued.
Aliyev added that the sides further discussed regional security and the current situation, including the new reality that has emerged in the South Caucasus region.
“Countries in this region must remain focused on peace, stability, and security, as these principles are being violated in various parts of the world. In our region, they must remain unwavering. Such developments must not affect our region”, he said.
“In the South Caucasus, we are a region of peace, stability, and cooperation. I would especially like to highlight Georgia’s important role. Mr. Prime Minister, you mentioned the peace process between us and Armenia. The agreements we sign are not enough - every future step must strengthen this peace. These meetings and visits serve exactly that purpose”, the president continued.
Aliyev concluded by emphasising that the Azerbaijani side had initiated contacts with Armenia through Georgia and expressed gratitude to the Georgian government for its support.
