Georgian Parliament official: approaches within European Union will inevitably change

Levan Machavariani

Levan Machavariani

Levan Machavariani, the first deputy chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Monday said that the ruling party’s grievances were directed specifically at Brussels “Eurocrats”, arguing that “Europe is completely different, European people are completely different, while this ruling class is entirely different”.

In his remarks, Machavariani expressed confidence that approaches within the European Union would inevitably change.

He further pointed to what he described as key risks under the current EU political leadership, including “ultra-left LGBT ideology and propaganda”, uncontrolled illegal migration, and economic issues such as rejecting cheap resources and slow economic growth.

“We are deeply convinced that approaches will inevitably change in the European Union, just as everything has changed in the United States. This is because the primary threats and risks that exist today in the EU under this ruling class - that distorted LGBT ultra-left ideology and propaganda, this uncontrolled illegal migration, and issues related to the economy, such as the rejection of cheap resources and the very slow pace of economic development, etc. - all of this was rejected by the United States when they elected Mr. Trump’s administration”, Machavariani said.

“Consequently, we have great hope - and there are signs of this visible in Europe - that the European people will also follow the example of the American people. Accordingly, the changes that must inevitably occur will happen. By 2030, which is the official position for the next planned expansion of the EU, we consider ourselves obligated to carry out all necessary reforms in parallel. We will fulfill the obligations undertaken by the Association Agreement and strengthen the country economically, so that in 2030, Georgia will be the best-prepared country among the other candidate member states”, he concluded.
