Georgia’s ruling party official accuses external forces of seeking “proxy state” status for Georgia

Irakli Kirtskhalia, the chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Wednesday accused specific international and domestic actors of pursuing a “destructive course” aimed at undermining Georgia’s sovereignty and economic stability.

In his interview with Imedi TV, Kirtskhalia responded to a statement from the EU Delegation suggesting that the Georgian government is undermining the country’s aspirations to join the European Union. He characterised the current pressure as an attempt to transform Georgia into a “proxy state”.

Kirtskhalia claimed that the same actors are also seeking to make Georgia economically vulnerable and provoke public frustration, which he argued could contribute to destabilising processes in the country.

He referred to various training programs and individuals he associated with so-called “deep state” influence, including public materials and open letters he cited, and alleged that these efforts are designed to worsen social conditions and undermine economic progress.

“Now Blaževič - a new figure has entered this scene. This open message speaks of one of the main goals of these training sessions - to make our country economically vulnerable, because with this intelligence, it will be easier for them to destructively manage situations later. This is their idea, task, objective”, he concluded.
