Georgia’s ruling party official: Georgia holds key position in Middle Corridor, Eurocrats will have to accept geographic reality

Levan Machavariani

Levan Machavariani, the first deputy chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Saturday emphasised Georgia’s strategic importance within the Middle Corridor, asserting that Georgia, alongside Azerbaijan, serves as the “backbone” of this vital trade route.

Machavariani highlighted that current geopolitical shifts have left few alternatives for transit between East and West, noting that while the Northern Corridor remains closed and the Southern Corridor faces significant challenges, the Middle Corridor stands as the most viable path.

“Today, the Middle Corridor has no alternative, where Georgia, together with Azerbaijan, forms the backbone. The Northern Corridor is closed, the Southern Corridor faces problems, and the only route through which products and goods from China and Central Asian countries can reach the European Union must pass through Georgia”, the official said.

He further stressed that Eurocrats would have to admit that a route vital to them crosses through Georgia.

“Our government is doing everything to ensure that cargo throughput is maximised and that there are no losses. This is served by the construction of highways, the expansion of ports, the construction of the Anaklia deep sea port, new airports, and the expansion of existing ones, as well as railway modernization. Consequently, regardless of the ‘resentment mode’ Eurocrats find themselves in today, tomorrow or the day after, they will have to recognise geography; they will have to admit that the route vital to them passes through Georgia, and in doing so, they will have to engage in dialogue with our government. Until now, they have done everything to ensure they had a vassal government in Georgia and to replace us with their agents”, Machavariani concluded.
