Georgian Parliament Vice Speaker: French resolution on Georgia based on “non-existent facts”

Giorgi Kakhiani, the vice speaker of the Georgian Parliament, on Wednesday criticised a French parliamentary resolution on Georgia, saying it was based on biased information and did not reflect the reality in the country.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Kakhiani noted that the situation in Georgia is better understood by its citizens than by foreign lawmakers.
“One thing is what is written in these resolutions, which are based on completely biased and non-existent facts, and another thing is what is happening in the country. And what is happening in the country is known much better by the Georgian people than, for example, by the 68 members of the French Parliament who supported the resolution”, he said.
The official emphasised that Georgia has “red lines” that could not be crossed and reiterated the government’s willingness to engage in dialogue.
“We want one thing - dialogue. We are ready for dialogue, and we have said this many times. It is very easy to make unilateral assessments and reflect them in resolutions without any objections. But when it comes to dialogue, it is a different format, face to face, and you cannot easily make unsubstantiated accusations there. This is one of the reasons why dialogue has not taken place so far”, Kakhiani noted.
He also suggested that such resolutions were influenced by political motives, arguing that radical opposition forces and external actors attempt to use them to damage Georgia’s reputation and create political pressure.
“They are trying in every way to damage the country’s reputation and image, hoping to create some favorable political ground for themselves in such processes. On the other hand, external actors and their external patrons are also trying to give them political momentum through such resolutions. But even they themselves understand that there is no revolutionary momentum inside the country and there cannot be, because there are no preconditions for it”, he concluded.
