French MP Guillaume Bigot slams resolution against Georgia

Guillaume Bigot, a member of the French National Assembly, on Tuesday said countries should avoid interfering in the political affairs of other nations because they do not fully understand every country’s internal political situation.

In his remarks with Imedi TV, Bigot commented on the French National Assembly’s recently adopted resolution concerning Georgia, expressing hope that the document would not damage relations between France and Georgia.

“Georgia is a good friend of France. It is a country whose historical past is also connected with France. Therefore, I hope this will not affect French-Georgian relations”, Bigot said.

According to the French lawmaker, the European Union, France, and all member states should focus on protecting their own political systems from external influence.

“The European Union, France, and all member states should make it their first priority to ensure that no external power - whether Russia, China, the United States, or Qatar - has the ability to interfere in our domestic political life. Before cleaning someone else’s house, you should first put your own house in order”, he stated.

The French Parliament recently adopted a resolution on Georgia that condemns what it describes as an “authoritarian shift” in the country, criticises several laws passed by the Georgian government, and calls for sanctions.
