Georgian PM: new US administration’s approach offers opportunity to restore strategic partnership

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday expressed optimism about the future of Georgian-American relations, stating that the approach of the new United States administration differs significantly from that of its predecessor and creates an opportunity to rebuild strategic ties.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze described the new United States administration’s approach as very positive and fundamentally different from the previous one.
“It is very positive that the approach of the new US administration is fundamentally different from the approach demonstrated by the previous administration”, he said.
He recalled that in 2020 and 2024, the former administration encouraged sabotage and the boycott of state institutions, whereas now a changed attitude is visible.
“If we recall 2020 and 2024, it was the former administration that, on the contrary, encouraged sabotage and the boycott of state institutions. Now you can see that this approach has changed, which is very important”, Kobakhidze noted.
“All of this gives us hope and provides a basis for optimism that we will be able to review our partnership and restore strategic relations from a clean slate, guided by a concrete roadmap, an idea that we have proposed on multiple occasions”, he concluded.
