Georgian Parliament Vice Speaker says Georgia continues EU aligned reforms and leads among candidate countries

Nino Tsilosani

Nino Tsilosani, the Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, on Monday said that Georgia continues to implement reforms in line with EU standards and expressed confidence that the country would be better prepared than all other candidate countries by the time the EU accession process fully advances.

In her remarks, Tsilosani noted that Georgia continues to carry out reforms in line with European Union standards and argued that the country was making steady progress on its European path.

“It goes without saying how unfair the suspension of the negotiation process is towards Georgia, which, according to their own reports and documents, receives the highest evaluations when assessments are based on facts. However, so far we see criticism only at the level of political assessments”, she said.

She further pointed to the situation of other candidate countries.

“However, when we talk about unfairness, we cannot forget that, for example, Ukraine and Moldova, for whom the first negotiation cluster has now been opened out of six important clusters they need to go through, were congratulated on the opening of the negotiation process back in 2024, and only now the first cluster has been opened,” Tsilosani noted.

The Vice Speaker added that Georgia remains committed to reforms.

“Georgia continues to implement reforms in line with EU standards. I am confident that by the time the EU door opens, Georgia will be more prepared than any other candidate country”, she noted.

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has stated that Ukraine and Moldova have fulfilled their obligations, which is why the first negotiation cluster will be opened for them. Meanwhile, Estonia’s Foreign Minister spoke in Luxembourg about pressure and again threatened sanctions. In Tbilisi, officials speak of double standards and attempts at political pressure, while the ruling party argues that Georgia remains the leading candidate country.
