The second-largest airline in Scandinavia, Norwegian, has officially entered the Georgian aviation market by launching direct scheduled flights on the Copenhagen-Tbilisi-Copenhagen route, marking the first time in history that regular air connectivity has been established between the capitals of Georgia and Denmark.

Norwegian operated its inaugural flight to Tbilisi International Airport, which was welcomed with an official reception attended by high-ranking officials. The new route will operate twice a week.

Levan Moseshvili, the Director General of United Airports of Georgia, described the launch as an important milestone for the development of Georgia’s aviation sector and the strengthening of air links with Europe.

“For the first time in history, the capital cities of the Kingdom of Denmark and Georgia have been connected by direct air route, which is an important step for the development of the country’s aviation market and the strengthening of air connectivity with Europe. The new route will strengthen business and tourist travel and will help attract high-spending visitors from Denmark and Scandinavian countries, which will have a positive impact on the growth of the aviation and tourism sectors, as well as the country’s economy as a whole”, Moseshvili said.

The first flight, operated by a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, carried 180 passengers - a notably high load factor for an inaugural service.
