Georgia once again receives top US Department of State ranking in fight against human trafficking

The United States Department of State on Monday released its annual Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report, which once again placed Georgia in the highest category for its continued efforts in combating human trafficking. Georgia has now maintained its position in the so-called “Tier 1” ranking for the tenth consecutive year, standing out among 188 countries worldwide. This year, only 33 countries achieved the top ranking.
Georgia remains the only country in its region - and the only EU candidate state - to secure the highest rating in the US Department of State’s assessment. Notably, 11 EU member states did not make it into the top tier this year.
The report highlights Georgia’s strong and coordinated measures against human trafficking, emphasizing that the country fully meets international standards in fighting this form of organized crime. These efforts are also closely tied to Georgia’s broader process of European integration, contributing to the creation of a safer and more reliable environment both domestically and across the region.
According to the report, Georgia continues to implement robust, consistent, and well-coordinated actions aimed at preventing trafficking, prosecuting offenders, and protecting victims. The State Department praised the Georgian Government’s strengthened commitment across all areas of anti-trafficking policy.
Georgia’s sustained top-tier ranking is attributed to the effective work of the Interagency Coordination Council on Combating Human Trafficking, which oversees the country’s anti-trafficking measures. The council, chaired by the Minister of Justice, brings together representatives from all relevant state institutions, the Public Defender’s Office, and partner organisations.
