Georgian Parliament Speaker accuses EU of moving away from peace toward division and conflict

Georgian Parliament speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Friday criticised the European Union, saying it was “a disgrace” that the bloc was, in his view, moving away from a peace project toward one of “turmoil, hostility, and confrontation”.

Papuashvili’s remarks came after Imedi TV on Thursday reported that the Georgian opposition is following a revolutionary scenario authored by Igor Blaževič, a prominent leader of the Prague Civil Society Centre.

“What was previously financed and organised by American sources during the previous US administration has now been transferred to the European Union. If earlier there was Ackerman who wrote scenarios of inciting strife, hostility, and unrest in Georgia, then after the Trump administration stopped and withdrew all such harmful funding, all this is on the shoulders of the European Union. All such unrest should be financed and organized from the European Union. This is when we are talking about a civilizational abyss. What greater disgrace could there be for the European Union than this, which is really turning from a peace project step by step into a project of unrest, hostility, and confrontation?!” the speaker said.

He further noted the government would investigate in detail what it was dealing with, who were those people with Georgian passports who were so openly involved in the projects of the special services.

“Hopefully, all this will be shed in due light and the public will see everyone by name and surname. Just as Ackerman was a project of foreign special services, this Czech person is exactly the same as a project of foreign special services, the goal of which is to promote anti-democratic processes in Georgia, overthrow the government and bring puppets to power. We will follow this issue to the end”, he concluded.
