Georgian, Armenian Defence Ministers discuss security environment, existing challenges in region

Armenian defence minister Suren Papikyan is on an official visit to Georgia, hosted by his Georgian counterpart Irakli Chikovani.

Following an official welcoming ceremony held at the ministry of defence, the ministers and members of the delegations held a bilateral meeting, where they discussed issues of bilateral and regional cooperation in the field of defense.

Chikovani thanked the Armenian side for its support of Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and reaffirmed Georgia’s support for Armenia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The sides emphasised the friendly and close relations between the two countries and the positive dynamics of defense cooperation. One of the main topics of discussion was the security environment and existing challenges in the region.

The defence ministers reiterated their readiness to contribute to ensuring and strengthening peace.

The officials further discussed the directions outlined in the 2026 bilateral cooperation plan, which is more comprehensive compared to previous years.

After the meeting, the Armenian defence minister paid tribute to those who died in the armed conflicts for Georgia’s territorial integrity at the Heroes’ Memorial.

As part of his visit, Papikyan is also expected to visit the Maro Makashvili Rehabilitation Center for military personnel in Tserovani.
