Georgia’s economy grows 9% in Q1 2026

Georgia’s National Statistics Office on Friday reported that the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) at current prices amounted to ₾ 24.77 billion ($9.31 billion) in the first quarter of 2026, while real GDP growth reached 9.0 % compared to the same period of the previous year. The GDP deflator increased by 2.3 % during the reporting period.
The sectors that made the largest contribution to economic growth in the first quarter of 2026 were information and communication, which expanded by 36.0%, transportation and storage at 18.0 %, wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles at 5.5 %, financial and insurance activities at 11.7 % , and arts, entertainment and recreation at 14.5 %.
Meanwhile, the sectors contributing to the decline were agriculture, forestry and fishing, which contracted by 3.3 %, and construction, which fell by 2.0 %.
According to the report, the largest shares in Georgia’s GDP structure were held by wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, accounting for 13.2%, followed by information and communication at 10.4 %. Other major sectors included real estate activities at 10.0 %, manufacturing at 8.2 %, public administration and defence; compulsory social security at 7.2 %, education at 6.5 %, construction at 6.4 %, transportation and storage at 6.1 %, and financial and insurance activities at 5.9 %.
