Georgian Economy Minister: continued investment in transport infrastructure will position Georgia as regional logistics, economic hub

The Anaklia Deep Sea Port is one of Georgia’s most important strategic projects and will play a pivotal role in strengthening the country’s economy while reinforcing its strategic position, said on Monday Georgian Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili.
In her remarks at a briefing, Kvrivishvili noted that cargo volumes across all Georgian ports had increased significantly this year, continuing the growth recorded in 2025.
She stressed that over the next three to four years, the Government, together with its partners, must ensure the parallel development of all supporting transport infrastructure.
“This is not dependent solely on the construction of the Anaklia Port. To a large extent, it also depends on the parallel development of the Georgian Railway. Therefore, we have decided to invest more than GEL 1 billion in the near future to enable Georgian Railway to procure additional wagons and locomotives, thereby increasing its cargo-handling capacity”, Kvrivishvili said.
The Minister added that the Government would continue investing in transport infrastructure, including the country’s highway network.
“This entire ecosystem will ensure that Georgia not only becomes a transit and logistics hub and continues to perform that role effectively, but also develops into a regional centre that will make a substantial contribution to our country’s economy as well as to the wider region”, Kvrivishvili concluded.
