Georgian Economy Minister: Georgia, Uzbekistan reach key agreements to boost trade, investments, Middle Corridor role

Georgian Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili on Saturday announced that several important agreements were reached during the Uzbek presidential visit, under which Georgia and Uzbekistan would closely cooperate to significantly increase trade-economic ties, with special emphasis on the strategic Anaklia Deep Sea Port and broader transport infrastructure.
Following high-level meetings, Kvrivishvili showed the Uzbek delegation - including Ministers Laziz Kudratov and Ilkhom Makhkamov - the ongoing construction at the Anaklia Deep Sea Port and the port infrastructure in Poti, including APM Terminals Poti, the new Poti Seaport by Pace Group, and the Free Industrial Zone.
“Uzbekistan clearly confirms a very great interest in Georgia from the point of view of direct investment implementation”, Kvrivishvili said.
She noted that discussions focused on deepening cooperation in trade, transport, logistics, and tourism sectors.
“A number of important agreements were reached, within the framework of which the two states must closely cooperate with each other in order to visibly increase trade-economic ties. Special emphasis was placed on trade, transport and logistics sectors, as well as the tourism sector”, she noted.
The Minister stressed the particular importance of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port project, which would be completed in its first phase by 2029, enabling the reception of the first large vessels.
“Precisely from this, the importance of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port was particularly highlighted, as well as the importance of Georgia’s port infrastructure in general. Accordingly, we are in Anaklia and Poti, where we inspected on site the existing infrastructure that has already been created in the country, and at the same time, the ongoing construction process that is in the active phase at the Anaklia Deep Sea Port. As a result of which, in 2029 we will complete the first phase of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port and receive the first vessel”, Kvrivishvili concluded.
Kvrivishvili further said that Georgia would continue close cooperation with Uzbekistan to increase investment flows, tourism exchanges, and cargo turnover, emphasising that these developments would strengthen the national economy and enhance Georgia’s role in the Middle Corridor as a key transit hub linking Europe and Asia.
