Georgian Parliament official highlights potential for deepening Georgia-Japan economic ties

Irakli Mezurnishvili, Head of the Georgian Parliament’s permanent delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) and a member of the parliamentary majority, on Tuesday highlighted the growing potential for economic cooperation between Georgia and Japan following a series of official meetings in Tokyo.

During the visit, Mezurnishvili met with Ichiro Aisawa, Head of the Japan-Georgia Parliamentary Friendship Group, to discuss bilateral relations and opportunities for strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.

“A very important meeting was held in Tokyo. At the Japanese Parliament, we met with Mr. Aisawa, Head of the Japan-Georgia Friendship Group. We discussed Georgian-Japanese relations. Japan is a very close friend of our country and actively supports Georgia on every platform”, Mezurnishvili said.

He noted that Japan, the world’s fourth-largest economy with a GDP of around $4 trillion, represents a key partner for Georgia as it seeks to expand international economic ties.

“There is significant potential for deepening economic relations between Georgia and Japan. As you know, Japan has the world’s fourth-largest economy, with a GDP of approximately $4 trillion”, he said.

Mezurnishvili emphasised that Japan’s strong investment capacity presents valuable opportunities for Georgia and underlined the importance of promoting the country’s economic potential to Japanese businesses.

“Japan is highly active in terms of investment, and it is particularly important that we showcase the opportunities our country offers. We are actively working in this direction, and there is considerable interest among Japanese companies in entering the Georgian market. Therefore, we will do everything possible to further strengthen and deepen Georgian-Japanese relations”, Mezurnishvili concluded.
