Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and Honorary Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday said “those, who are enemies of the Georgian people and the country” should be banned, and further added that the ruling Georgian Dream party needed to secure a constitutional majority in the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for October 26 to ban and remove the opposition United National Movement party.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Ivanishvili noted that “as soon as the UNM leaves the domestic political space, the Georgian Dream party will have many opponents”.
“Those who are the enemy of the people and the enemy of the country should be banned, there are many examples of this in the world. As for opposition parties, there are 13 or 18 opposition parties today. The Georgian Dream [party] is an understandable, transparent, patriotic force, if something is positive and someone has a desire, they instantly become a member of Georgian Dream [party]”, Ivanishvili said.
“As soon as [United National Movement party] is banned, there will be many opponents of the Georgian Dream, and I am waiting for this day, it will be the happiest day, that we should give people the opportunity to choose between good and better”, he continued.
Ivanishvili further highlighted the importance of securing a constitutional majority in the upcoming elections.
“Winning the election is not decisive, I say because we need a constitutional majority to ban and remove [the United National Movement party] [...] to somehow get rid of this plague”, Ivanishvili noted.
