Luke Uribe-Etxebarria Apalategi, an international observer and a member of the Spanish Senate, on Sunday said it was “necessary” to respect the outcome of the parliamentary elections held in Georgia on Saturday.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Apalategi noted that talking about violations without presenting evidence meant that neither democracy was respected nor the will of the Georgian people.
“Minor violations were not systematic, and talking about this without evidence means that you neither respect democracy nor the will of the Georgian people. This is quite a serious issue”, the Spanish Senator said.
When asked if there were any minor irregularities during the elections in other countries, an international observer responded that such things can happen in Spain, Italy and France as well.
“For me, the starting point is the statement that yesterday's incidents are not an example of problems in the electoral process of this country. More than 3 000 polling stations were operating yesterday , and only 11 of them had certain violations. This means that these cases cannot be used to question the election outcome. The election commission, the election system works properly, the staff are professionals and citizens were provided with correct data quite quickly”, Apalategi noted.
According to the data from 3,110 polling stations, the support for the Georgian Dream party stands at 53.92 percent, while the four opposition coalitions have a combined total of 37.786 percent.
