András László, a Hungarian member of the European Parliament, who is monitoring the ongoing local self-government elections in Georgia, on Saturday said the election process was proceeding smoothly.
In his remarks, László expressed hope that the elections would proceed in a peaceful manner.
“The purpose of our visit before the opening of polling stations was to check their preparedness for the elections. Staff were already present when people started arriving, and observers are on site. The process is proceeding smoothly”, the MEP said.
“The secrecy of the vote is guaranteed. I hope the elections will be held peacefully and that people will make their choice about how local municipalities should operate and which candidates should advance in the future”, he concluded.
The election process is being monitored by observers from 28 international and 27 local organizations, and covered by around 1,000 representatives from 73 media outlets.
