Georgian FM urges respect for Georgia’s democratic choice from Western allies

Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Saturday expressed hope that the countries Georgia was seeking closer integration and association with - particularly in the West - would respect the democratic will of the Georgian people.
In her remarks over the ongoing local self-government elections, Botchorishvili stressed that “anyone who respects democracy must first and foremost respect the choice of the people”.
“Elections are essential for the democratic and stable development of any country. These elections are important for our citizens - it is the people of Georgia who decide who should lead their cities, villages, and the country”, the FM said.
“I expect that the countries with which we seek integration and association - and I mean Western nations - will honour the democratic choice of our citizens”, she concluded.
