Georgian FM: Georgia seeks OSCE chairmanship in 2027, ready to cooperate with all participating states

Georgia is seeking to chair the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in 2027 and is ready to work with all participating states, Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili said on Thursday at a reception in New York promoting Georgia’s candidacy.

Speaking during the high-level week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Botchorishvili hosted representatives of OSCE participating states and called for their support for Georgia’s bid to chair the organisation in 2027.

“It is a great honour for me personally and for my country to host you this evening. As you know, Georgia has submitted its candidacy for the OSCE Chairmanship in 2027, and we hope to have your support”, she said.

“We do not need to remind you that European security is under great pressure, and communication and cooperation are more important today than ever. Georgia has experience working with this organisation. We understand the importance of sovereignty, which is essential for every OSCE participating state”, the FM continued.

She further emphasised the importance of principles that should guide all participating states.

“We also understand that dialogue, the peaceful resolution of conflicts, respect for international norms and law, and the fulfilment of commitments are the foundation of our security. These principles are important to every participating state. We also understand that finding ways to resolve conflicts peacefully requires determination, patience and political courage”, Botchorishvili noted.

“Georgia is interested in becoming the OSCE Chair in 2027 and is ready to cooperate with all participating states”, she concluded.
