Peter Szijjártó, Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs, on Tuesday said Georgia was the most striking example of the double standards applied by the European Union, as the country had a patriotic, conservative, pro-peace Government, which was why Brussels was undermining them in every way.

In his remarks at a meeting with his Georgian counterpart Maka Botchorishvili, Szijjártó noted that the policies of the new United States President Donald Trump and his administration had dismayed the Brussels political elite.

“Georgia is the most striking example of the double standards applied by the European Union, as the country has a patriotic, conservative, pro-peace government, which is why Brussels is undermining them in every way.

The policies of the new American president and his administration have dismayed the Brussels political elite, and with their last-ditch efforts, they want to put patriotic governments in Europe and its surroundings in a difficult position.

We will not allow this; we will continue to stand up for our national interests: we want peace, we will not allow illegal immigrants, and we will protect our children”, the Hungarian FM said.

Botchorishvili will feature at the Hungarian Ambassadors’ Conference on Monday.

Furthermore, the Georgian Foreign Minister will deliver a public lecture at the Hungarian Diplomatic Academy, addressing young diplomats on the priorities of Georgia's foreign policy.
