Georgian FM reaffirms strong, thriving relationship between Georgia, Hungary

Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Monday reaffirmed the strong and thriving relationship between Georgia and Hungary during a joint press conference with her Hungarian counterpart Péter Szijjártó.

In her remarks, Botchorishvili emphasised the significance of economic cooperation between the two nations and expressed optimism about future developments.

“We will soon hold an Economic Council meeting, which is crucial for strengthening economic ties and exploring new opportunities. While our trade indicators are already promising, there is always room for improvement. We will work in this direction and I am sure that we will have better results in terms of improving economic cooperation in the coming years”, the FM said.

“We eagerly anticipate our next intergovernmental meeting in Budapest, where representatives from the governments of Georgia and Hungary will discuss future cooperation across various sectors. This is a clear example of how countries can work together to foster stronger partnerships”, she continued.

Botchorishvili also highlighted Georgia’s role in the Middle Corridor project, an initiative connecting Europe and Asia through efficient transport routes.

“As you know, it is very important for Georgia to play its role in the Middle Corridor, we pay great attention to this project with the participation of various countries. Here, in Hungary, I must mention our good cooperation when it comes to connectivity, cooperation between Georgia, Hungary, Romania and Azerbaijan. This is very important and the work in this direction will continue. It is also important to work with the European Commission in this regard, and what we offer is very important to them. We count on your support in the European bodies so that important projects can be implemented for the security of Europe”, the Minister noted.

The Georgian Foreign Minister also addressed the issue of territorial occupation, reiterating Georgia’s dedication to a peaceful resolution.

“Peace remains a top priority. Georgia continues to face challenges due to the Russian occupation of two of our regions, which poses security threats. We are actively working towards peaceful solutions to these issues”, Botchorishvili said.

Furthermore, she expressed gratitude for Hungary’s ongoing support for Georgia’s European integration process.

“European integration is our strategic priority. I want to sincerely thank Hungary for its assistance, particularly in providing expert support. I look forward to deepening our collaboration in the future”, she concluded.
