Georgian FM highlights “very solid and strong” relations with Hungary

Georgia and Hungary continue to deepen their bilateral relations, which are becoming increasingly strong and stable, said on Monday Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili during a joint briefing with her Hungarian counterpart Péter Szijjártó.

In her remarks, Botchorishvili noted that the two countries have established top-level cooperation at the prime ministerial level, holding annual meetings that help shape collaboration across various fields.

“Relations between Georgia and Hungary are developing very well. They are already very solid and strong. We have established high-level cooperation at the level of prime ministers and we have meetings every year, which determines cooperation in various directions. We are making efforts to cooperate in the direction of common interests”, the FM said.

She also highlighted the importance of ongoing joint work to protect sovereignty, noting that this shared priority is not always welcomed by everyone.

“Not everyone likes this, but it is our common interest and it is very important to protect it, because it is related to our security, our well-being and our future generations. This is how we see it. We share the opinion of our Hungarian friends that our cooperation is even stronger when we have common values, interests and ideas. It is clear that peace, which is very important and very close to Georgian thinking, we understand how important it is to protect our security and the peaceful development of the country. This is what we are fighting for”, she continued.

Botchotishvili further extended her gratitude to Hungary for supporting the importance of peace and for sharing the view that Europe must continue working toward stability and peaceful development.

“Obviously, our friendship and cooperation are strengthened by many things and we will continue to work in this direction”, she concluded.
