Georgian PM says balanced territorial development, urban planning key priorities for Georgia

Georgian prime minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday said that alongside the country’s robust economic growth, balanced territorial development and modern urban planning have become key national policy priorities in recent years.

In his speech at the 13th session of the World Urban Forum in Baku, Kobakhidze noted that his government’s objective was not only to expand infrastructure and improve quality of life, but to ensure that growth remains sustainable, regionally balanced and centered around the needs of Georgian citizens.

He emphasised that the forum, organised by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, served as an essential platform for exchanging experiences and advancing a shared vision for safer and inclusive communities.

“It is an honor to address this distinguished audience at the 13th World Urban Forum here in Baku. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Azerbaijan for its traditionally warm hospitality and excellent organization of this important global gathering. This forum, organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, serves as an essential platform for exchanging experiences and advancing a shared vision for safer and inclusive communities”, Kobakhidze noted.

“The way we plan, develop and protect our urban spaces will ultimately shape the stability, well-being and resilience of our societies for generations to come”, he continued.

Kobakhidze further noted that cities today stand at the center of nearly every major global challenge

“In recent years, alongside Georgia’s strong economic growth, balanced territorial development and modern urban planning have become key priorities of our national policy. Our objective is not only to expand infrastructure and improve quality of life, but to ensure that growth remains sustainable, regionally balanced and centered around the needs of our citizens”, he concluded.
