Georgia, China highlight progress in bilateral relations and strategic cooperation

Georgian Parliament speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Monday met with Wang Huning, the chair of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

During the meeting, the two sides highlighted the significant progress achieved in Georgia-China relations in recent years. Particular attention was given to the official visit of the Georgian prime minister to China in 2023, during which a joint statement on establishing a strategic partnership was adopted.

Papuashvili stated that Georgia and China share a strong commitment to the principles of national sovereignty, peace, and security, as well as firm support for international law, the strengthening of the international order, and the promotion of equality and mutual respect in international relations.

The Chinese side reaffirmed its firm support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Both parties expressed readiness to further deepen bilateral relations, noting that there is significant untapped potential across all areas of cooperation between Georgia and China.

Discussions also focused on strengthening parliamentary ties, as well as expanding cooperation in trade and economy, tourism, education, innovation, and culture.

According to Papuashvili, free trade remains an important factor in deepening cooperation between the two countries.

The sides also emphasised the importance of connectivity, transport, and logistics cooperation in today’s turbulent global environment. In this context, they highlighted Georgia’s participation in China’s Belt and Road Initiative, as well as the need to better utilise the potential of the Middle Corridor.
