Interior Ministry detains 22 individuals on drug-related charges, including 19 drug dealers

Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs, in cooperation with the General Prosecutor’s Office, on Thursday detained 22 individuals on drug-related charges following a series operational and investigative measures.
The Ministry reported that the detainees included citizens of Georgia, Russia, Azerbaijan, Moldova and Turkey, and 19 of them had been identified as drug dealers.
“The individuals were arrested for the illegal distribution, attempted sale, and preparation for the sale of large and particularly large quantities of narcotics, including marijuana”, the statement said.
The Ministry further added that multiple covert investigative measures had been conducted with the court approval, confirming that the suspects “were systematically engaged in drug distribution”.
Law enforcement officers carried out controlled purchases of drugs from the suspects and documented the transactions through covert audio-video recordings.
During searches of the detainees’ residences and designated locations, police seized large quantities of various narcotics, including heroin, amphetamine, suboxone, buprenorphine, alpha-PVP, methadone, and marijuana.
Investigators also confiscated cash allegedly obtained from drug sales, adhesive tapes, and electronic scales.
