Police arrest 5 drug dealers

The Georgian Interior Ministry’s Central Criminal Police Department on Monday arrested five individuals on drug dealing charges as a result of operative and investigative actions.

The charges carry potential sentences of up to 17 years or life imprisonment.

Based on the court orders, the police carried out controlled purchases from the suspects, recording these transactions through secret audio and video equipment.

Law enforcement officers seized narcotic substances, heroin and marijuana, during searches of the detainees' homes and personal belongings.

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260 and 273¹ of the Criminal Code of Georgia. Article 260 addresses the illegal manufacture, possession, and distribution of narcotics, with penalties ranging from several years to life imprisonment depending on the severity of the offense. Article 273¹ covers the illegal possession of small quantities of drugs for personal use, punishable by a fine, community service, or imprisonment of up to one year if repeated after an administrative penalty.
