Georgian Parliament official: nothing should hinder reset of Georgia-US relations

Levan Machavariani, the first deputy chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Thursday said a formal agreement has been reached for a US delegation to visit Georgia to explore the potential for deepened bilateral relations under the new US administration.

In his remarks, Machavariani emphasised that the Georgian side is ready to sit down at any time to draft a concrete roadmap for future cooperation, structured across both time and space.

Speaking on the shifting dynamics between Tbilisi and Washington, Machavariani highlighted a significant ideological shift, noting that the current US administration shares a worldview similar to that of the Georgian government.

Machavariani further claimed there is “absolute alignment” regarding political views, assessments of the war in Ukraine, and skepticism toward Eurocrats and organisations like USAID and NED.

“We were rooting for Mr. Trump openly and publicly. There is an absolute alignment in terms of values, worldview, political views, and assessments regarding the war in Ukraine, Eurocrats, USAID, and NED - total alignment! Consequently, nothing should stand in the way of resetting these relations”, the official said.

“The US side is well aware of our repeated commitment to develop a specific roadmap. Our goal is to define a clear timeline and framework for the reciprocal steps required of both parties, founded upon our shared interests. We remain in anticipation of this process; the steady, positive momentum we are seeing provides us with significant optimism for the future”, he concluded.
