Irakli Kirtskhalia, the leader of the parliamentary majority and Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction, on Friday sharply criticised the latest resolution adopted by the European Parliament, claiming that it “has the price tag of” MEP Rasa Juknevičienė and is filled with falsehoods.
Speaking to reporters, Kirtskhalia said the resolution was “saturated with lies from beginning to end” and accused its authors of promoting what he described as a destructive agenda.
“We have lost count of how many such resolutions have been adopted. What do we read in this text? We once again see destructiveness, a commanding tone, double standards, completely absurd claims, fabricated facts based on falsehoods, and lies built on perceptions”, Kirtskhalia said.
He further argued that the resolution reflects the positions of individuals whom he described as de facto members of former President Mikheil Saakashvili’s party, adding that such initiatives hold little significance for the Georgian authorities.
Addressing what he called double standards, Kirtskhalia said European politicians often warn about the dangers of political polarisation while simultaneously contributing to divisions within societies.
“On the one hand, they say polarization is damaging to every developed country. On the other hand, they do everything in their power to encourage polarization and social segregation, particularly in our country and, I am sure, in other countries they want to turn into proxy states”, he continued.
Kirtskhalia also criticised provisions related to visa policy, claiming that certain political groups seek to preserve visa-free travel privileges for what he described as their “agent network”, while disregarding the broader public.
