Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Friday criticised recent discussions in the European Parliament regarding the selective suspension of visa liberalisation, stating that such statements were politically motivated and harmful to both Georgian society and state interests.
In her remarks, Botchorishvili argued that certain statements coming from European political circles were not constructive and instead serve to deepen internal divisions within Georgian society.
“It is very unfortunate that, on the one hand, European politicians express concern about polarisation within Georgian society, while on the other hand they do everything possible to divide our society even further, set people against one another, and use the political instruments at their disposal to fragment our society”, she said.
“Making such statements is directed solely against our society and against our state interests, and in no way serves either European or Georgian interests”, Botchorishvili concluded.
