Nino Tsilosani, the Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, on Wednesday said that Georgia suspended its work in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe with dignity because the conditions imposed for recognizing the country's credentials were unfair.
In her interview with Imedi TV, Tsilosani noted that some members remain “stuck in a non-existent past”, citing their continued calls for early elections in Georgia despite the fact that no such demands exist domestically.
“No one here is demanding early elections anymore, yet the Ukrainian delegation to PACE is still calling for them”, she said.
The Vice Speaker further highlighted that the broader campaign against Georgia is tied to the ongoing war in Ukraine, as certain actors seek to punish Georgia for avoiding involvement in the conflict while demonstrating resolve to the Ukrainian people.
“On the one hand, we do not expect this struggle against Georgia to end until the geopolitical situation changes dramatically and, at the very least, a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine is found. It will continue, at a minimum, because they want to show the Ukrainian people who are fighting that while they were at war and Georgia managed to avoid being drawn into it, Georgia is being punished for that”, Tsilosani concluded.
